I’ve been really taking note of the way I use my time, and one area in which I have been taking special care is showering. The thing is I often shower twice a day, once in the morning and once again after a work out, and one thing I’ve notice is when I shower after a workout it is so much quicker.
Often this is because I am in a place like a change room, or I just don’t want to waste my time in the evening. Another thought I have is that often the first thing I do is wake up and get straight in the shower. Using the shower to wake up, I spend more time then I’d like to admit, just standing in the hot water. To counteract this, I have taken two steps: when I get up first thing I do is walk the dogs and the next thing is I use a 5 minute timer to force myself to finish.
If I need extra motivation I simply think to myself that I am paying for the water, I am paying to heat the water, and I am paying to dispose of the water. Let alone my time that I am wasting, which I am trying to address by forcing myself into the 5 minute shower. It’s a little greener then spending 10 minutes in the shower, so I can feel good about saving the planet as well as my time!
According to Crunchy Domestic Goddess “Did you know that the average shower length is 8 minutes*? By reducing that to 5 minutes, you can reduce the amount of water you use by nearly one-third, or roughly 10 gallons per day.” That is a load of water when you really think about it.
Moving forward I hope to continue this habit, even into the dead of winter when it is much colder in the morning, and therefore more tempting to stay in the shower much longer. So what do you think? What things do you do to help cut down on time on things like showering. Comments are appreciated!
